Crafting 4 Turtles 2023 (Update)

CRAFTING 4 TURTLES 2023 (UPDATE)

Hello from Kelly at Think Turtle Conservation Initiative

Think Turtle launched the “CRAFTING 4 TURTLES” initiative in 2018 as a way for adults and youth to use their crafts skills and hobbies to help turtles. Each year the funds raised through the sale of handcrafted items go towards the treatment and care of injured turtles admitted to the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre (OTCC), home of Ontario’s turtle hospital. Six years later and turtles are still being helped through this community initiative!

To date over ‘1,360’ injured turtles have been admitted to OTCC this turtle season, 90%are the result of being struck by a motor vehicle.

SALES TO DATE

Thanks to amazingly talented and caring Crafters and Artists in Bancroft and neighboring communities our combined efforts so far this year have raised “$1,105” for the turtle hospital.

These funds have been raised through the sale of handcrafted items sold at public events/markets Think Turtle has participated in during April – August. These items have included: small crochet/knit turtles and other animals, quilted mug rugs, resin turtle key chains/necklaces, crochet turtle potholders, paintings, crochet/knit afghans and other items.

We are getting low on handcrafted items to sell. With there being more summer/autumn market dates and Christmas sales ahead it would be great to continue to raise funds to go the turtle hospital.

MORE HANDCRAFTED ITEMS

If anyone is interested in making handcrafted items of any type for the Crafting 4 Turtles initiative that would be greatly appreciated. Turtle and nature themed items remain the most popular. Over the years the handcrafted items we have received have included, crochet/knit animals (a favorite), turtle soaps, dream catchers, key chains, lap quilts, felted pins, paintings, painted rocks, knitted hats, slippers, etc. This week we received some painted rocks and beaded bracelets we will have at the next Bancroft Farmers’ Market. Any and all handcrafted items are appreciated even if they are not turtle themed. All funds from the sale of Crafting 4 Turtles items go to the OTCC to help injured turtles.

Thank you so much to the Crafters/Artists for sharing your creativity in this way and the people that have purchased handcrafted items making the Crafting 4 Turtles initiative a success again this year.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could share this post with family, friends and associates and ask them to do the same.

During your travels please be mindful of the wildlife we share the roads and trails with. Thank you.

Take care and have a good day.

Best Regards,
