Requiem For Quinte Wetlands

Hello from Kelly at Think Turtle Conservation Initiative

Our friends with Quinte Field Naturalists (QFN) have organized a different type of rally in Belleville this weekend.

QFN are hosting a ‘Requiem For Quinte Wetlands’ this Saturday at 4:00 pm at Market Square.

The event will consist of a candlelight procession that will start at the Market Square and move on to City Hall and then to the Belleville Footbridge.

The purpose of the event is to raise awareness to the loss of protection Quinte Provincially Significant Wetlands would face under Bill 23, the Build More Homes Faster Act and the proposed updates to the Ontario Wetlands Evaluation System (OWES).

Note: Updates to the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System (OWES) could result in very few wetlands being designated as provincially significant in the future. Wetlands presently deemed as Provincially Significant Wetlands (PSW) may be striped of this designation, leaving them unprotected and vulnerable to destruction.

Please attend if you are able to and spread the word!

RALLIES & PETITIONS

There are ongoing ‘Repeal Bill 23’ and ‘Hands Off The Greenbelt’ rallies organized across the province and more are being added everyday.
